Toronto Riichi Open 2023

The Toronto Riichi Club is excited to announce the first Toronto Riichi Open (TRO). We hope to see you there!

The TRO is a two-day tournament.

After entering from the Jarvis St. entrance, walk straight down the hall past reception and vending machine. The room will be on the left just past the open waiting area.


From Union Station:

  1. Take the TTC subway Line 1 northbound towards Finch to Dundas Station.
  2. Exit the station and take the 505 Dundas streetcar eastbound to Dundas St East at Jarvis St.
  3. Walk north along Jarvis St to the International Living/Learning Centre, on your left.

There is a closure on Line 2 between St. George and Broadview on Sunday until noon. Shuttle buses will be available to service the affected area of the route, but it may be faster to transfer to Line 1 instead if you are affected.

Fees and Registration

Update 2023-07-17: The deadlines have been extended to July 31, 2023 for registration and August 5, 2023 for payment.

The tournament fee is $80 CAD.

Fill out the registration form (disponible en français) before July 21, 2023 July 31, 2023 to register for the tournament. There is a limit of 64 entrants; those registering after the limit will be put on a waiting list. Registration is now closed.

Within 48 hours of registering, you should receive an email with an invoice (send an email to if you have not). The invoice shall be paid to the Toronto Riichi Club PayPal account and is due July 23, 2023 August 5, 2023. If your payment is not received by that date, you forfeit your spot to the next person on the waiting list. Payments by cash (CAD only) will also be accepted at the Toronto Riichi Club meetups in July.

Refund Policy

Refunds will only be issued in case of emergencies. If you have an emergency and need to withdraw from the tournament, please contact to request a refund.

Catering will be provided by TMU. Please advise us of any dietary restrictions in the registration form. There are also many other food options available within walking distance of the tournament venue.


There are many reasonably-priced hotels within walking distance of the tournament venue. The Toronto Riichi Club has not partnered with any specific accommodation provider for this event.

Rules and Format

The tournament will follow the WRC 2022 rules with the lower penalties described by Mod 6.3 in the optional rules. Tournament etiquette will also be observed.

Second day

The second day will be split into two halves. After the first half, a cut to the top 16 will occur and scores will be adjusted.
